Here we go again.

My mistake this time around was trying to upgrade from WordPress Version 2.6 to Version 2.8.1. By skipping Version 2.7, I bypassed a perfectly simple upgrade button, which would’ve saved me a couple of hours of trying to manually compress, upload, extract, and recode a bunch of folders and files.
